Hi Andrew, it's the GDATTIM string that is limited to something like 84 or 128 characters, I can't recall. The solution I'm thinking of right now, which is probably not the only one, is to run gddiag and/or gdmod to re-define the dates/times of the grids, collected into a single grid file. I'm on leave until November 19 but if I get a chance I'll look at this some more. As it stands, GEMPAK can't deal with definitions longer than the maximum string length.
