Hi Art, Are you certain the depth is being rounded rather than scaled? After decoding the linked file what I see are layer values (for DPTH vertical coordinate) expressed in tenths of meters. Are you seeing the same or are the decoded layer values actually rounded (which would look like LEVL1 = 0, LEVL2 = 0 rather than 0 and 10, respectively): dcgrib2 soil.gem < nam.t00z.awphys06.grb2.tm00 GEMPAK-GDINFO> GDFILE = soil.gem LSTALL = YES OUTPUT = T GDATTIM = all GLEVEL = all GVCORD = all GFUNC = SOILL GEMPAK-GDINFO> NUM TIME1 TIME2 LEVL1 LEVL2 VCORD PARM 12 110510/0000F006 0 10 DPTH SOILL 17 110510/0000F006 100 200 DPTH SOILL 20 110510/0000F006 40 100 DPTH SOILL 23 110510/0000F006 10 40 DPTH SOILL -Michael -Unidata > Hi... > > We're trying to decode soil moisture in NCEP grib files and the decoder > seems to be rounding the layer information to the nearest meter but the > depths are in fractions of a meter.
