[GEMPAK #XCW-838072]: Unable to open grid files

It appears that gfortran is not installed on your system.  You can either 
install gfortran or change the fortran compiler to g77 by editing 
$NAWIPS/Gemenviron so that

set USE_G77=1 

is uncommented and 

set USE_GFORTRAN=1

is commented

and then rebuild.
