Kevin / Jay, GEMPAK supports single band area files only. The numbers in imgtyp.tbl represent band numbers of the format 2**n-1 where n is the band number. If you are seeing a band of 656, then this would appear to be a file with 3 bands in it, eg 512 + 128 + 16. In order for GEMPAK to display these images, they would have to be written into separate single band image files by McIDAS.
