You can download the GDAS pressure level grib files from:
ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/gfs/prod/gdas.yyyymmdd/

The grib files are gdas1.tCCz.pgrbfhh (roughly 22MB in size).
