20010601: Gempak colors

The GEMPAK graphics are designed for 8 bit color.
On other machines (such as SGI, SUN, etc) which support multiple visuals, 
you can run with 24 bit displays as long as the default visual is 8 bits.
The Linux XFree86 server does not support multiple depths.
