Glenn,
I reposted the Makefile in:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/gempak/distribution/dcredbook/Makefile
If you can point your browser at that file and do a save_as, then you
shouldn't have any other junk. Use this to replace the Makefile you have now.
