Pat,

You might try shortening the list of directories that sat searches
as I mentioned previously. It could be that your path is too long.
Do we have a core dump? If so, that will tell us where the program
is bombing. Otherwise, please send me the output from ls -R as well 
as your Garp_defaults file.
