You can use NSAT with the File->user_defined browser to open the file and view the area files, or any of the text interface programs by setting the areafile name in SATFIL and defining PROJ=sat. In order for Garp, or the FILE->standard gui popup widgets to display the file names and types, the area files need to be named something more explanatory than "AREA0120". to do this, the $SAT environmental variable points to the top of a directory tree with the area files renamed as described in: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/gempak/tutorial/nsat.html Steve Chiswell
