This archive contains answers to questions sent to Unidata support through mid-2025. Note that the archive is no longer being updated. We provide the archive for reference; many of the answers presented here remain technically correct, even if somewhat outdated. This is a feature. Building dcacars and dcncprof requires that you
first build netcdf and define those library locations in
$NAWIPS/config/Makeinc.common. Since not all sites will get these data
streams, I did not want to make building the core portion of Gempak
contingent on having NetCDF.

You have to contact FSL directly for them to feed the PCWS to you.

They have a couple of restrictions on use of the data, so FSL
will maintain feed control. Here is the original announcement

All,

ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) data
are now available for research and educational uses to the Unidata
university community from NOAA's Forecast Systems Laboratory (FSL)
using point-to-point LDM technology.

These data can be useful in a multitude of applications including
modeling, aviation and weather research, and training purposes.  In
return for the data, participating airlines are hoping to gain
additional information on the use of the data through scientific papers
presented at symposia such as the AMS and AGU annual meetings, etc.

For detailed information on the data sets, how to obtain the data, and
the restrictions on their use, please refer to the FSL ACARS web page:

information on decoders for use of ACARS with Unidata-supplied
