the problem is a period is not a valid character in a netcdf file name. the 
last hour 
i've been checking all the grib tables for periods. i think they are all 
removed. 
i made a new distribution with all the tables updated. this should solve your 
problem.
also, i'm including a script to convert to netcdf.
