Pete, Since the file names are actually those as NCEP posts on the FTP server, I'd guess that it would be quite traumatic to many users of the FTP servers to have to change their scripts if the file names of the actual files were changed, so the best solution will be to do it in the pqact on the LDM side. It certainly does make it easier to use when the files are all canonically named (eg "ls" lists the files in order).
