In your email, you linked Windows install method 1: http://unidata.github.io/awips2/install/install-cave/#method-1-linux-virtual-machine which is a virtual machine you install with vmware player and run a virtual machine that is running Centos7. Our Windows install method 2: http://unidata.github.io/awips2/install/install-cave/#method-2-direct-windows-install Requires a few more steps (installing java, python, Visual C++ Build Tools) along with an msi for CAVE. And this is a direct application you run from the start menu or desktop shortcut.
