This is very strange behavior, and not something I've heard of before. Just for
one attempt,
have you tried stopping CAVE, removing caveData, and starting it again and see
if the problems
still persist?

Have you tried clicking inside the vm window, tried resizing or maximizing the
vm window?
Do any of those tricks change the size of the actual vm screen?

You have the correct hardware to render all the data natively, so I'm still
confused why the
direct install is giving you issues.
Please let me know if any of those suggestions make any differences.
