There is limited functionality with GFE within the Unidata build of AWIPS. Currently it is only set up to work with the OAX (Omaha, NE) localization. I'm not sure what exactly they are looking to do with simulations, but we do not have any functionality to run simulations through GFE, only realtime data. I'm also not sure about cooperating with different offices since we only have GFE set up for one. If you'd like we can work with someone at the St. Louis office and possibly set up a small local EDEX with the St. Louis GFE configurations or further work to get something working for your lecture.
