Hi there, > Thanks so much for the quick and detailed response; I will digest that > feedback. Of course, hope there's some useful information in that first email! > I do have one initial question: > - Does CAVE work reasonably well through tunneled X11 connections? It does NOT work well at all via tunneling X11 connections or other ssh connections. You would have better luck with some kind of remote access/vnc. We have heard (but not tried out personally) that nomachine works pretty well. You might be able to get some other kind of VNC to work okay. However, I would really recommend running CAVE locally on the Windows 10 machine, instead. If you do not have admin privs on the Windows machine, then you should be able to get started with the VM option right away (does not require admin): http://unidata.github.io/awips2/install/install-cave/#method-1-linux-virtual-machine Be aware, this installation does have a known limitation, that it cannot display RGB satellite products. If you do have administrative privileges on the Windows machine, I'd probably recommend taking the time to do the direct windows installation. Our instructions, along with a link to a walk through video are found here: http://unidata.github.io/awips2/install/install-cave/#method-2-direct-windows-install This takes a bit longer, but will allow you to load the RGB satellite data. For the linux machine, it will require administrative privileges to install CAVE or EDEX. But again, I highly recommend installing CAVE locally, rather than on a remote machine.
