Hi Hugh, The easiest thing for you to do is either follow our directions at: http://unidata.github.io/awips2/install/install-cave/ That are at the very top of the page, to deal with Linux. Or install VMWare Workstation Player (https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-player.html) and then install the Virtual Machine that is under the "Windows" installation options from our website. That Virtual Machine already has CAVE installed on it and you should be able to start it up and run it right away.
