[AWIPS #SOS-784305]: AWIPS-II University Beta Test Site Program

Hi Edward,

Thank you for writing in to us about AWIPS II. I will gladly add you to the
beta test group. We aren't a very active group at the moment, let me update
you on the next ~6 months:

* I am currently waiting to receive NWS 14.2.1 from NCEP. 14.2.1 is the first
version to support 64-bit RHEL/CentOS 6 - previous versions only supported
32-bit RHEL/CentOS 5
* when I receive it, I will work for a few weeks to a month to prepare the next
neta. Unidata AWIPS II 14.2.1, which should go out in April or May
* when I release 14.2.1 to the beta testers, I'm going to ask everyone upgrade
to RHEL/CentOS 6 64-bit and then we will all be done permanently with CentOS
5!!!

Like I said, there's not a lot of activity in the group now, but there will be
when 14.2.1 is released and we all try to help each other install and run the
system.

The AWIPS II beta download page is
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/awips2/download/

This page includes instructions for installing and running 13.2.1, so please
feel free to download and install 13.2.1 and let me know how it goes, but
you'll need the old hardware requirements. If you want to hold off until 14.2
is available with the newer requirements then that's no problem for me.

Best,

Michael James
