Hi Herbert, It turns out that a Zstandard filter is already available for HDF5 (which NetCDF-4 is built upon [1]). However, I don't think the libnetcdf tools (such as nccopy) can use compression other than zlib, even if the underlying libhdf has other filters installed. You might want to ask NetCDF support about that: address@hidden As for HTTP compression, THREDDS just uses standard gzip, which is actually a feature of Tomcat, the servlet container. Zstandard doesn't look to be supported by major web servers or browsers yet.
