John- I'm testing the switch from using ucar.nc2.dataset.grid to ucar.nc2.dt.grid classes. When I request a subset of a grid using the new classes, the projection's default area does not reflect the subset. Using the GFS 80km netCDF grids and subsetting over the SE us, the old classes give a bounds of: projection bounds = min: 203 -304 size: 2113 1706 the new classe give a bounds of: projection bounds = min: -4266 -873 size: 7558 5282 which is the same as the whole grid.
