I run axform on the sounder area files from WI from our linux box
which is running Unidata v7.803 with all updates and addendums with
wonderful success. When I run axform.k on the same AREA file on our
dec alphas also running Unidata v7.803 I get all missing
values...even though I can visually display the AREA file which
clearly has data.
help!
I have uploaded an area file to the ftp site you gave me. The name
of the file is AREA2000 and is located in /incoming/data on the
unidata ftp site unidata.ucar.edu. Let me know what results you
get by running on axform on your dec alpha. Just to let you know
I'll be on a business trip all of next week and I won't be able to
check emails. Thanks for your help.
I built McIDAS on our Compaq OSF/1 5.1 machine here at the UPC and ran
AXFORM on the AREA file you FTPed to me the week before last:

Are you sure that the AREA file you FTPed to me was one that was giving
you problems on your OSF/1 system? It does not appear to cause
problems on our OSF/1 5.1 system.
I have to add quickly that the distribution that I built contains bug
fixes beyond the 7.803 addendum that you are running. The latest fixes
I have made are the zeroing of local variables in Fortran routines.
This effort is part of my "compile with g77 project", a project that
has finally seen success. I am now able to build a working McIDAS
distribution using gcc/g77 under RedHat 7.1 Linux. Friday and today I
am populating the SSEC CVS code repository with the mods that I have
been making. I will be releasing a new addendum to Unidata McIDAS with
these changes sometime this week. I am telling you all of this because
it is possible that one of the routines that I have modified may be the
one that was keeping AXFORM from working properly for you (but, then
again, it may not).
If you have another AREA that does not work with AXFORM, please FTP it
to me so I can test it (just to make sure).

Tom,
Well that's good news that you were able to successfully run axform
on your osf1.5.1 machine. I doubled check and the area file I sent you is
definately the one that gives us problems. As you said in your email, maybe
the addendums you are about to release will solve the problem. We'll wait
for the addendum release notice, make the changes and re-run axform.k and
let you know how it handles.
