Simon,

I got on as 'ldm' and stopped the LDM.  I then returned to being 'mcidas'
and redid the steps to setup XCD:

cd ~mcidas/workdata
batch.k XCD.BAT
batch.k XCDDEC.BAT

I then restarted the LDM and things appear to be working now.  The problem
must have been in something I was overlooking.
