Kevin, > Yesterday I attempted several times to stop LDM, delete the queue, recreate > it and try to start LDM. Tom's suggestion was to reboot your computer; not restart the LDM. Rebooting will ensure that any and all processes that have the product-queue open will terminate. This assumes, however, that root doesn't start the LDM on a reboot. Have you tried this?
