Hi John, re: > Must the server that the LDM resides on support Reverse DNS for > successful connection on the IDD? One can run the LDM on machines where is not both forward and reverse name lookup. The site(s) requesting data from these machines would need to specify the IP address of the machine instead of a fully qualified hostname. Also, it is not absolutely the case that sites requesting data from an LDM server have forward and reverse DNS. The machine from which data is requested, however, would need to setup ~ldm/etc/ldmd.conf ALLOW entries by IP address instead of by fully qualified hostname. Your question, however, specifically mentions the IDD, and it is our policy that machines participating in the IDD have both forward and reverse name DNS. The main reason for this is it: - makes it easier for the LDM administrator to create ldmd.conf ALLOW lines that match more than one machine - it provides a bit more security by helping to minimize spoofing > While I have seen some information on the forums on this, a bit of > clarity for the newbie in me would be truly welcomed, as I am trudging > through this install alone (trying to learn it all myself). > Thanks in advance for the response.
