I'm afraid there's no optimal solution. Some less-than-optimal alternative include the following: 1. Do what you were planning on doing with KEEPALIVE and the writing of the NUL byte and pray that the utility and the connection never dies. 2. Put an LDM on the computer that's running the SSEC/SDI "cat" utility. Configure the utility to write to a FIFO and an LDM ingester to read from it. 3.
