Here is the straight poop on the problem you reported with hupsyslog:

Anne Wilson, our LDM support/development person, told me that this is
a problem in the pre-5.1.4 version of ldmadmin.  What you should do is
upgrade your LDM installation to 5.1.4, and this problem will go away.
