The automatic startup of ldm on weather5 is controlled by the file 
/etc/rc2.d/S98ldmd which is a link to the /etc/init.d/ldmd script.  
If you remove the link in /etc/rc2.d, the LDM will not be automatically 
started.  You will need to be root to do this.
