[IDV #ZVZ-823077]: The initial splash screen never goes away and data won't display.

Greetings James,

For the version of the IDV you are running (4.1) , you must have java 1.6 
installed on your system, and the main idv start script must be modified to
point to it if you also have java 1.7 installed.

However, we have a new version of the IDV that is nearing release, and 
you might have better luck with it:

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/idv/nightly/index.jsp

It's our nightly build, but it's running pretty well and should work
with your Mac just fine.
