Greetings! It would be helpful to see the configuration of the IDV. The easiest way to do this is to open the IDV (try with 4.1) and select "Help" -> "Support Request Form..." and submit a new request. The benefit is that we will get information regarding your OS, Java Version, as well as other IDV information, which can help us determine what might be going on. I've seen a problem similar to the one you describe on a Mac running Java 7. In that case, the user needed to install Java 6 and make a few edits to the runIDV script to ensure that the proper version of Java was being used. The IDV relies on Java 3D, which isn't quite ready to use with Java 7. Cheers!
