There are a few issues listed will be investigated sooner. I tried to reproduce this reloading data issue here with no luck. After created two contour displays for two different members, I went to the display property window to change the legend label, and everything works as expected. By the way, did you do the time subset in the dataset property window (under Field Selector tab and double click the data source or right click on the data source), the time subset would not change even reloading the data. After you install the 3.1 release, if you are still seeing the same issue, send me an email with a little details information of the procedures you went through.
