I will be surprised if Vaisalla doesn't know the NLDN format. The IDV is using the CDM library to read in this kind of lightning data. There is another format of lightning data can be read into the IDV, it is ASCII file in CSV format as the following example. I don't remember the variable in each column, I can provide more detail information next week if you are interested.
