This is done now. There are a set of new formulas under Grids->Time Steps
for doing the min/max/avg and difference.

Note - you have to play around with the display color range to get decent 
results
when doing the time step differences.

Also - any of the initial time steps that are less than the offset are set to 
missing.

So, timestep difference is:
D(T) = D(T)- D(T+offset)

with offset = -1 we have
D(T) = D(T)-D(T-1)
and D(0) = missing

I'll get Don to do a nightly build this week.
