It looks like you pasted the above URL into the URL Chooser. That URL is one 
that LEAD creates that generates a jnlp file that starts up the IDV and loads 
in the data argument. What you want to to in the IDV is laod in the url given 
by the data argument, i.e.:
http://chinkapin.cs.indiana.edu:8080/thredds/dodsC/N/dc/projects/lead/ldm/pub/native/grid/NCEP/LEADNAM/2008052918/nam40grb2.2008052918f06
