Jeff,
I was able to show the color scale in display, but when it does come up, it is 
so small its unreadable no matter what zoom factor I use.  Is this a known 
problem and can it be solved?

Attached is a screen shot I just took that shows the colorbar decently sized. The bar scales 
with the size of the window.
Can you send a screen shot of your example? Does the bar scale with the window size?
