John-
Downloading and Running the Unidata IDVDon:=20 I feel like I've been "on the other side of the moon" (so to speak) and = no communications .... But, I've been working on trying to get the source installed correctly = on the PC windows,=20 linux and solaris machines.... After some time, and having difficulty on = PC windows, I gave up and I wasn't able to do much on linux (yet) since I need to install = the Java (SDK) tools ....Actually, my sys-admin mentioned that he was planning on doing that = ....So.. I tried to=20 install and follow your instructions on the Solaris (Sun) machine and at = about 10:45 this morning, I had success... The IDV windows came up and was able to run a = few images=20 of our files... I feel more confident about the linux (once the Java = development tools have=20 been installed) ....It's just the PC-windows (that I had some difficulty = with) and unfortunately, I didn't take much time to write down or note the problems (more = precisely)... I think that=20 I'll persue the linux first and windows next ....=20
I just the top of the document should say - First, you must install the Java and Java 3D SDK. The Java JRE does not have javac installed and that's probably what is installed on Windows. So, before you try Linux, make sure you have the Java SDK and Java 3D installed. We use Sun's SDK and Blackdown's Java 3D.
Talk to you later....oh...if you have any comments or questions on the = "successful" installation on Solaris, please let me know ... I need to make some notes (or = comments) on just a few=20 parts of your instructions... nothing important (I don't think) but = might be helpful...=20
I'm guessing that your Solaris system has Java and Java 3D installed. We would appreciate any feedback you have on the instructions when you get a chance.
Have a nice day,=20 John McCormick=20
