Hi Otis, Long time no hear. I hope you are doing well! So, you are no longer at U Miami/RSMAS? re: > The Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites - NC, hosted by > NC State and located in Asheville, NC would like to connect to the IDD > as a way to populate a daily weather database for weather and climate > discussions. The local POC is Scott Wilkens (cc'd on this e-mail). Very good. re: > To start we would like to have FOS (IDS|DDPLUS), Lightning and McIdas > feeds. What is the process for setting up these upstream connections? With the exception of lightning data, we can set you up with one or more upstream feed sites. In fact, assuming that the machine you are going to run the LDM on has both forward and reverse DNS AND is in the .edu domain, you should be able to immediately feed from idd.cise-nsf.gov and/or idd.unidata.ucar.edu. We can arrange for one or more upstreams sites managed in the Unidata community later. NB: Nobody is authorized to relay lightning data to downstream machines outside of their own domains. To get lightning data, you will need to send requests for point-to-point LDM feeds to the sites that provide the data: NLDN lightning data: Dr. David Knight Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences University at Albany State University of New York address@hidden USPLN/NAPLN/GLN lightning data: Kim Rauenzahn Lightning Product Manager WSI address@hidden Please make sure to note that you will be requesting the data from a machine in the .edu domain. If the machine is not in the .edu domain, it is likely that both U Albany and WSI will refuse your feed request. More information about each source/type of lightning data can be found in the Unidata Lightning data pages: Unidata HomePage http://www.unidata.ucar.edu Data http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/data Lightning Data http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/data/#lightning re: > Thanks.
