I never saw any announcement about this?) The NIMAGE feed is the remapped GOES images in GINI format in NOAAPORT. There has never been a general announcement about their availability since most sites do not have the bandwidth necessary to ingest or store them. The VIS sectors, for instance, are each 26 MB in size after they get uncompressed, and there are 4 of these sectors for both GOES-East ande GOES-West each hour. >Could we begin feeding (and relaying if desired) this feed from >thelma or somewhere? I spoke with Jerry R down at SSEC and he >said that they receive the satellite channels on their NOAAPORT >receiver but are not ingesting them at all. Yes. I just added an allow for any machine from aos.wisc.edu for NIMAGE from papagayo.unl.edu. If you want to uncompress these images from the PNG format that we compress then into, you will need to setup ldm-mcidas pngg2gini actions in your ~ldm/etc/pqact.conf file. The reason I say _if_ is because GEMPAK can handle the images in their PNG compressed format. Please note that the NIMAGE images will undergo a format change in the coming few months. The NWS will be changing how these images get broadcast, and this will affect how we relay the images in the IDD. Chiz has already modified GEMPAK (an unreleased version) to be able to read the zlib compressed images as they will come off NOAAPORT. I will be adding a new routine to the ldm-mcidas package (or modifying pngg2gini) to uncompress these images before the NWS changes become operational. Tom
