Hi James,
Possibilities are endless....
If you have a good internet connection, and a fast UNIX computer (will not
run on windows), and good/strong UNIX system administration skills, we
could set you up to get the real-time data and allow you to decode it from
GRIB to .gifs or .jpegs for use. However, it seems to me that it would be
quite a bit of work if you are not planning on using the data at the
research level.
I do some forecasting for the Western United States, and have created my
own webpage that has model output, current visible imagery, IR imagery,
all radars, etc...and it is primarily for the Western US but certainly
includes the entire country. It is western centric since I do forecasting
for Warren Miller Productions and a roofing company in San Francisco [as a
hobby ;)].
My site is, of course, free to the public, and I encourage you to view my
site and see if it may be able to address your needs. And if there is
something special you want but do not see, I may be able to generate it
and create a link for you....or maybe it is there, just difficult to find
or navigate.
See: webersweatherworld.com
Thank you for your interest and let me know how I can help further, or if
you still want to pursue the IDD/LDM track.
-Jeff
