This archive contains answers to questions sent to Unidata support through mid-2025. Note that the archive is no longer being updated. We provide the archive for reference; many of the answers presented here remain technically correct, even if somewhat outdated. Hi Ekaterina, Welcome back! Was it a boy or girl? You will be hearing from Jeff Weber (perhaps Robb Kambic) very soon. Jeff will be coordinating with you on this project.
After the technical details are completed, you may want to consider an announcement of the availability of the GEM data to the Unidata community. I'll be happy to work on it with you. It needn't be long, but provide some links to information about the GEM data and how people can access it. If you have any distribution restrictions, that would be very important to note in the announcement, or provide a link to the specific information.
Several of us will be at the American Meteorological Society meeting next week, so there could be a slight delay in response from us.
Thanks so much for contacting us again. Hopefully we can successfully get the GEM data flowing from you to sites interested in using the data very soon.

Hello Linda and Mr. Chiswell, I am back from my leave and happy to work once again on the CMC Unidata project. I understand that there was a temporary interruption of the GEM data feed to the IDD system in July. We believe that the LDM server was shut down accidentally, and this still being an experimental set-up, we didn't have a mechanism in place to ring the bell in case of problems. I say "temporary interruption" because, after the server was re-installed in August 2000, it seems to have worked normally ever since at our end. The logs show that the GEM products are successfully inserted in the LDM queue on a daily basis. Could you please (check and) confirm that you are not getting any GEM products from dns2.cmc.ec.gc.ca . The permissions in the ldmd.conf file are set as follow: allow ANY ^((localhost|loopback)|(127\.0\.0\.1\.?$)|([a-z].*\.unidata\.ucar\.edu\.?$)) allow ANY shemp.unidata.ucar.edu Once the feed is re-established, I should inform Christian Page of the Universite du Quebec a Montreal of the availability of GEM data via the IDD system. I've appended it below. Can you provide an update? The last info I received from you was Aug 24, 2000. I've attached it after the most recent inquiry. Thanks, Linda Date: Wednesday, January 10, 2001 9:55 AM -0700 From: Unidata Support <address@hidden> To: Christian Page <address@hidden> Subject: 20010110: IDD: GEM and ETA model questions Christian, GEM data from CMC is not available on the IDD yet. The person that was leading the effort for installing the LDM and sending the data to us went on leave and I do not know of any progress after that. I'll CC Linda Miller in case she knows any more information and so we know users are interested in the data. On the IDD, the ETA is available on the 207 (alaska) grid in addition to the 20, 40 and 80km conus grids you list below. Steve Chiswell Unidata User Support
