FYI...

NIU just announced to me that we got funding to upgrade the partial T3
here on campus. It was supposed to happen this morning, but due to
technical problems, it didn't. But by next week we will go from a 6 MB
connnection to a 9 MB connection. Furthermore, the State of Illinois is
trying to connect everyone via their new service called Centurynet, with
is a *shared* OC-3 connection to EVERY state government entity in
Illinois. I was just told that they are gunning for spring-summer 2000 for
implementation of that at NIU. OC-3 is a honker of a connection, folks.
But, again, it will be shared.
