I wrote this email about a month ago when I started seeing NIDS data on NOAAPORT. Because these were tagged as text, the product was truncated, prompting the email. The NIDS data on NOAAPORT is currently straight NIDS data (with a WMO and AWIPS header) but it will be encrypted shortly. In other words, there is no reason at this point to spin your wheels trying to decode these products as they exist on NOAAPORT today. They will remain encrypted until the end of the new NIDS contract (likely Sept 2001 at the earliest) and access to the decryption algorithms may only be given to the NWS. Most of this has yet to be ironed out between NWS and the NIDS providers so stay tuned!! Robb Kambic has implemented a filter to keep these products from making it onto IDD. This solves a couple of problems. First, to protect the current NIDS providers during the period where the NIDS products will be sent on NOAAPORT as is. Second, to keep the IDD bandwidth at a reasonable amount. As more and more NIDS data goes onto NOAAPORT, this could clog some local Internet connections. ________________________________________________________ Daniel Vietor Mail: address@hidden Unisys Corp Title: Engineer/Meteorologist 221 Gale Lane Phone: 610-444-2407 Kennett Square PA 19348 Fax: 610-444-2420
