Bob, You probably need to go into linuxconfig and select an 8 bit depth visual (256 colors) and unselect any 16 or 24 bit visuals you have selected. The error message you show is typical of running an X server (Xfree86) not in 8 bit mode. If you find that you really need the true color visual for other applications, then Mike Leuthold at Arizona sent a message in the support archives mentioning that he runs 2 X servers (using the the ctrl-alt-f7/f8 hot toggle between the). He can then have his 8 bit visuals for GEMPAK and 32 bit visuals for other applications. Also, with KDE, I set all those icon colors to gray instead of the high color use mode that is the default: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/gempak/tutorial/gifs/linux_kde1.gif Steve Chiswell Unidata User Support >From: Robert Leche <address@hidden> >Organization: UCAR/Unidata >Keywords: 200108151524.f7FFO0118284 >This is a multi-part message in MIME format. >--------------1B7E907DE1BAF4C243A622E2 >Content-Type: multipart/alternative; > boundary="------------B382FEA587F476391AE3DFEB" > > >--------------B382FEA587F476391AE3DFEB >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=x-user-defined >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >Hello all, >Returning from the Gempak workshop, I am eager to install the Gempak >tools on our systems but I ran into a problem.
