In going back through the archives:

It appears that we saw this once before. It seems like the contour spline
fitting algorithm may have been the problem and that your duplicate levels 
might 
be causing some 0 second derivative.

I don't seem to have your problem here using my running version at present.
If you would like me to crunch some gifs for you, I can do that too.
Otherwise, we'll see if my distribution binary for solaris works for you.
