Steve, I have partially figured out what went wrong with this suggestion > The way to globally change the background color for the xw background is > to change the first color in $GEMTBL/colors/coltbl.xw prior to > launching ntl. Ntrans, when launched from ntl, launches /home/disk/ldm/NAWIPS-5.4.12/bin/sol/ntrans ($GEMEXE/ntrans), but the background comes out black. When launched from the command line, the exact same executable, $GEMEXE/ntrans, now comes out with a white background! The ntl invocation of ntrans seems to utilize the color table in $NAWIPS_TABLES/nawips.clr (which does not appear to have a way to set the background color), while the standard, command-line invocation uses the color table in $GEMTBL/colors/coltbl.xw. Clear as mud to me now. -- David Ovens e-mail: address@hidden (206) 685-8108 Dept of Atmospheric Sciences, Box 351640 University of Washington Seattle, WA 98195
