U.S. universities can get NLDN and USPLN lightning data free-of-charge via
LDM/IDD transfers from primary distributors:

NLDN  - SUNY Albany
USPLY - WSI Corporation

All others are obliged to purchase the data from the owners:

NLDN  - Vaisala Corporation
USPLN - WSI Corporation
