Yes.  At some point in the future, we may switch them to be
in PNG-compressed AREA format.  This should not be a problem
for folks using Unidata McIDAS or Unidata GEMPAK because both
packages have built-in support for imagery in AREA and PNG-compressed
AREA formats.
