I think we can work out some arrangement where I copy the needed
imagery (ADDE copy from the ABoM) to one of the cooperating server
sites accessible in my MCGUI and then let you have at the data there.
I assume that this may suit your purposes.
When did you need access to the GMS-5 data?

Owen,
Simply stated the GMS data are navigated using the old GOES satellite
navigation model, which does not work well for GMS. The correct navigation
model was coded up but never successfully worked. So after many many hours
of trying we gave up. It was more effort than we bargin for. I think we
were missing a fundmental piece of the puzzle not given to us in the hdf
data. Sorry.

Hello, my name is Owen Cooper and I am a post-doc at the NOAA Aeronomy
in Boulder, CO. My lab is organizing a research project to be
conducted off the coast of California during April, 2002. The goal of
the experiment is to chemically characterize the pollution plumes that
originate in Asia and impact the USA. As I will be involved with the
flight forecasting and transport analysis, GMS-5 satellite imagery
will be of great value. Tom Yoksas at Unidata informed me that MSFC
post these data in Mcidas format on an ftp site. I was very excited to
hear this news and I just downloaded the most recent 24 hours of MCIDAS
format IR1 data. However, Tom and I noticed that they contain a
navigation error. When we ran the past 24 hours in a loop the center
point (latitude) of the satellite ranged from 7N to 7S. And the
overlayed maps don't line up with the surface features. So basically
there is a pronounced wobble in the image loops.
Are the folks at MSFC aware of this error and is it something that can
be easily corrected? I would appreciate any advice you can provide.
I look forward to using these data in my research and I will be pleased
to acknowledge MSFC and the U. of Hawaii for making the imagery
