Bob,
We're working with SSEC to debug the problem, but since the system isn't
under a hardware maintenance agreement, we need to eliminate a few of
the possibilities first.
First, let's move the card to the other PCI slot and reconfigure the
operating system to use it. Let me know if you need help with this step.
Currently, the thinking is that the problem is isolated to;
- a system PCI slot
- the ingest card
- cabling from the card to the demodulator
- the demodulator
Can you provide me with installation information regarding cable lengths
and distances between the dish and the demod and the demod and PC?
Is the serial cable to the PC the original one provided by SSEC, without
any extensions or obvious damage?
Are you aware of any environmental conditions that could explain the
periodicity of the failure (janitors in the room, AC turned off for the
weekend, power fluctuations, ...)
Are any of these systems attached to a UPS?
Finally, do you have a scope that you could attach to the serial feed and
record and/or trap events on the clock signal? If so, we'll provide a
pinout diagram of which conductors to tap. SSEC has specifically requested
this information to evaluate if the the problem is the card or is
upsteam of the card.
