[Fwd: NOAA-15 problems]

As of 2053 UTC on 7/12/2000 (day 194) the UW-SSEC Datacenter has
successfully ingested three HRPT and two GAC images from NOAA-15
retransmitted by the Gilmore station.

Update 4 at 2000 UTC (12 July)::::::::::::::
On orbit 11250, the NOAA-15 spacecraft was commanded to restart
synchronization of the MIRP from the AVHRR instrument. This action
resumed AVHRR image data in the HRPT data and the APT transmission.
Preliminary reports indicate good quality image data is being received
at direct readout stations on subsequent orbits. NOAA continues to
monitor the telemetry from the spacecraft for any further scan motor
deviations.

 Most of this morning's NOAA-15 images were broken up or are entirely
unusable.  NOAA's bulletins indicate

NOAA-15 HRPT Transmission Failure Update 1>

The HRPT transmission from NOAA-15 has been experiencing severe problems

with signal synchronization since early on 10 July, UTC.  NOAA is aware
of the problems and is investigating the cause and any possible solution

to restoring the HRPT service. Further information will be posted here,
as available.

Update 1 at 1400 UTC:::::::::::::
First indications are that of a possible failure of the AVHRR instrument

scan motor. Scanner problems will affect all AVHRR output, both HRPT and

APT data transmissions. NOAA personnel are awaiting more information
from telemetry when the satellite is again within view of the NOAA
Command and Data Acquisition stations.
