Hello,

I want to clarify a couple things here, since we're still confused exactly what 
and where the issue is.

Are you using Unidata's python-awips (DAF) downloaded and installed from here: 
http://unidata.github.io/python-awips/

How is your GFM tool getting the initial METAR data if it's independent of DAF? 
DAF is designed to be used to interact with an EDEX server to request data and 
make additional calculations/manipulations of data and use them to be plotted, 
printed out, etc.
